The sites that I chose to use for my Google Reader were primarily chosen to facilitate my research towards my Action Research Project: In my Algebra 1 Honors classes, I wonder if I can improve test results by allowing my students to experience a collaborative, student focused classroom, rather than a teacher centered, lecture oriented classroom?
This is probably the site that I am most excited about. This site is dedicated to redesigning the way math teachers deliver the curriculum. It focuses on the idea of making math applicable through practical problem solving and an emphasis on high level thinking skills, including UbD. (Understanding by Design) UbD is used extensively throughout my new Algebra 1 Honors book, but I have had very little training on how to fully implement it in the classroom. This site appears to be a perfect resource for my Action Research Project.
Edutopia is a “must have” for any educator. The site stays on top of the latest innovations in technology and strategies designed to motivate students to learn. I also anticipate this site to be extremely useful in finding information on my Action Research Project.
The National Council of Teacher of Mathematics provides professional development, lesson resources, articles, research and cutting edge strategies for teaching mathematics teachers. The site allows teachers to share best practices on a global scale. This should be particularly useful in working on my Action Research Project.
TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. TED delivers fabulous talks from some of the world’s most creative minds. I hope to find ideas for developing my own presentation skills, expand my vision and ways to stay inspired while motivating students. I am also hoping to find some videos that would be appropriate to use directly with my students.
Digital Directions is a publication of Education Week and offers information and advice for implementing technology in education. Part of my Action Research Project involves allowing my students the opportunity to experience a blend of online learning, along side the traditional classroom. This site should provide some insight into current e-learning practices.
